Book Talk: Contemporary Art Underground

Wednesday April 24

2:00 PM  –  3:00 PM

A journey in New York’s transit system offers more than a route to a destination; it’s a trip through one of the largest collections of permanent public artworks in the world. Contemporary Art Underground, the new MTA Arts & Design book, published by Monacelli Press, highlights more than 100 artworks completed between 2015 and 2023.

Join authors Sandra Bloodworth, who has been the Director of MTA Arts & Design for over 30 years, and Deputy Director Cheryl Hageman as they share the stories behind these permanent works, from artist selection through the translation of an artwork into a large-scale, site-specific installation.
