On April 15, 1918, Woodlawn station, designed by the subway's chief architect, Squire Vickers, opened in the Bronx. The subway's arrival helped spur development of the area that had begun following the opening of the nearby cemetery of the same name — and it changed the demographics of the Woodlawn Cemetery, too. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first train pulling into the northern terminal of the IRT Jerome Avenue Line, we're venturing uptown on the Transit Museum’s WWI-Era Lo-V subway cars to Woodlawn. During a 3-hour layover, take a guided tour of Woodlawn Cemetery to meet some of the famous (and infamous) New Yorkers who “reside” there, and learn how the arrival of the subway brought actors and musicians, ministers and real estate developers, and doctors and professors to the Woodlawn Cemetery as the new celebrity lot owners, replacing the Gilded Age moguls of the 19th century.

All ticket sales are final. Should you be unable to attend the Nostalgia Ride, the full price of unused tickets may be treated as a donation to the Transit Museum and is tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. The Museum is not able to reschedule reservations to another tour date.
