Deep Dive: Innovations of the IND
As the first subway company to be owned and operated by the City of New York, the Independent Subway (IND) endeavored to improve the design and operation of the two pre-existing, privately owned subway systems. With its emphasis on speed and capacity, the IND set the standard for subway construction from the late 1920s to present day.
Join transit expert Subutay Musluoglu and explore the pioneering features of the IND subway, the key figures who shaped its development, and the plans both realized and unrealized in its expansion.
