Today’s J line runs along some of the oldest elevated railway infrastructure still in daily use in the New York City subway system, with sections dating back to 1885. Originally part of a Brooklyn Rapid Transit (BRT) steam elevated line, the J train travels along Brooklyn’s elevated tracks, over the Williamsburg Bridge, and down into the subway tunnels of Manhattan.

Join historian Andy Sparberg for an in-depth exploration of the Jamaica Line, tracing its origins to the Broadway and Lexington Avenue elevated railways. Tour stops include Broadway Junction, one of New York City’s most complex transit hubs, where multiple subway lines and bus routes converge.
