Digital Discussion - Old City Hall: A Virtual Experience

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday March 26

12:00 PM  –  1:00 PM

City Hall is the 'Jewel in the Crown' of stations in the system! Designed by renowned architects Heins & LaFarge, the station featured innovative vaulted tile ceilings by master artisan Rafael Guastavino. Its elegant chandeliers, leaded skylights, and graceful curves inspired awe among visitors.

In 1904, New York City’s very first subway ride left from the City Hall station amidst great civic pride. Join us online as we dive into the creation of the Interborough Rapid Transit Company, early subway construction, and the City Beautiful movement that led to that momentous day. We'll look closely at the decorative flourishes of the decommissioned station with historic photographs from the Museum's collection, maps, architectural drawings, and photos of the station today.

Education Manager Polly Desjarlais will lead this captivating tour exploring the history, development and beauty of City Hall Station.

This experience will take place online. Upon registration, all participants will receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions on how to participate. We encourage you to download the Zoom app in advance for the best user experience
