From the moment it first left New York’s Grand Central Terminal in 1902, the 20th Century Limited was heralded as the pride of The New York Central Railroad, and quickly became well known as the preferred mode of travel for the country’s tycoons, moguls, and show business luminaries. For sixty-five years, “The Century” provided express service to Chicago, offering opulent dining and sleeping accommodations and a wide array of luxurious services, all while traveling at record breaking speeds. It has been celebrated in film, on the Broadway stage, in numerous publications, and was prominently featured in our exhibition, Grand by Design: A Centennial Celebration of Grand Central Terminal, which can still be enjoyed online.

Join Museum Educator Joe Hartman for a digital discussion about the illustrious history of the 20th Century Limited. Learn how it captured the country’s imagination, and how it shaped, and was shaped, by the ideals, aspirations, and prejudices of its time.

Please Note: This discussion will take place online. Upon registration, all participants will receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions on how to participate. We encourage you to download the Zoom app in advance for the best user experience
