The subway is its own ecosystem where native New Yorkers, recent immigrants, and other residents coexist in close quarters. Mastering a code of conduct on their daily commute helps immigrants become New Yorkers and New Yorkers become a community. Nicknamed the International Express, the 7 Train snakes through diverse neighborhoods in Manhattan and Queens where people are transforming their neighborhoods together. Join us before the program begins for a special micro-tour focusing on the role of immigration in transportation. From the immigrant workforce who built the subway to transportation’s influence on neighborhood development, the story of our diverse City comes alive. Tours will be offered at 6:00 and 6:15, and are free with program admission.
