Subway Therapy: Community Connections in Transit
This event is no longer on sale.
In 2016, artist, Matthew “Levee” Chavez, sat at the 14th Street-Union Square station with a colorful array of Post-its and asked subway commuters to express themselves. Thousands did and shared notes and images of their feelings, ideas, hopes, and fears. Dubbed Subway Therapy, Chavez’s project tapped into a collective desire to engage with one another, and spread to locations as far as San Francisco and Kyoto. Chavez’s work continues to evolve, exploring the intersection of public space, art, community, and change.
Join Chavez for a look back at his project’s original purpose, its evolution and impact over time, as well as the range of projects Subway Therapy has influenced worldwide.
