Transit After-Hours - OMNY: New York's New Fare Payment System

This event is no longer on sale.

Thursday June 17

6:30 PM  –  8:00 PM

Join us once a month for a series of conversations, presentations, workshops, and performances inspired by Transit Museum exhibitions and collections. Come together online, share ideas, and learn about transit and NYC history.

If you have taken a ride on a New York City subway or bus recently, you may have noticed new electronic readers on the turnstiles or near the bus doors. OMNY, which stands for One Metro New York, is New York’s new fare payment system that allows riders to ‘tap and go’ and pay their fare using a contactless card or smart device. Starting with the 2019 public pilot at select subway stations and buses, OMNY has now expanded to all remaining subway stations and buses and is on track to reach the final phase of its rollout in 2023.

Join us after-hours to explore the history of the project from its inception to installation with members of the OMNY team: Wayne Lydon, Director of MTA Fare Payment Programs, Dante Brunetti, Director, Operational Applications and Eddie Giha, Deputy Director, Capital Contracting & Facilities, who will be joined by Christian Henry, Vice President of Programs at Cubic Transportation Systems, and discover the process behind the rollout of the first fare payment update since the MetroCard.
