Explore the rich history of New York City, past and present, one neighborhood at a time. Through the lens of transportation, discover new places, share stories, and connect with communities.
In its almost century-long history, the Second Avenue subway offers many narratives of New York City’s transit history, as well as an underground gallery of some of the MTA Arts & Design’s newest public artwork.
Join us on this walking tour along the East Side of Manhattan to explore the avenue's transit development and art collection. See an original trolley kiosk on the Queensboro Bridge, explore archival and recent images of subway construction, and discover site-specific artworks by contemporary artists Jean Shin, Vik Muniz, and Sarah Sze. In addition to the cost of the tour, one MetroCard swipe or OMNY tap is required.
Members enjoy early access! Tickets go on sale to Museum members on Wednesday, January 14 at 10am ET. Remaining tickets go on sale to the public at Friday, January 16 at 10am ET.
